This paper describes about the liquid level control system which plays a significant role in many
process control applications. The Dynamic behavior of level control is influenced by lags in the tank,
measuring device and control valve so controlling the level of a liquid in a process tank is an essential one in
industries and keep the liquid level in the tank at the decided value. The conventional PID controller is
simple and eliminates steady state error but it alone does not give satisfactory response to the system. Fuzzy
logic controllers are rule based systems which are logical model of the human behavior of the process. Fuzzy
Logic Controller (FLC) is combined with the PID controller to form Fuzzy-PID controller and then the
control signal obtained from the fuzzy-PID controller is used to control the level of the tank .The
performance evaluation of the conventional PID controller and fuzzy PID has been done by the use of
MATLAB simulink. The transient response as well as error indices of PID, fuzzy-PID controllers are
compared. From the simulation results, it is validated that fuzzy-PID controller gives the superior
performance than conventional PID controllers.
