EFFICACY OF NATURAL COAGULANTS IN WASTEWATER TREATMENT AIDED WITH SOLAR POWER
Abstract
Plant-based coagulant sources, processes, effectiveness and relevant coagulating mechanisms for treatment of wastewater is experimented in this project. In this present study, an attempt has been made to evaluate the effectiveness of locally available natural coagulant for reduction of turbidity, pH ,TDS and COD in the wastewater in order to improve its quality. The tests were carried out using the conventional jar test apparatus.Wastewater has been co llected and treated by natural coagulants such as Moringaolifera,Synchorouspotatorumand then tests has been carried to study the wastewater characteristics like TDS, COD, pH and turbidity. The coagulant chemicals play the vital role in wastewater treatment. At the same time spending more amount for these chemical coagulants increase the total treatment cost and become more burden to the industry. In view of the replacement or Reduction of chemical coagulants which are used in wastewater clarification, natural polymers and coagulants which are effective, productive and also free from physio-chemical biological charactersticsare considered. These natural coagulants function by means of adsorption mechanism followed by charge neutralization or polymeric bridging effect. The aim of this project is to conserve the energy consumption and fuel by providing solar energy for the wastewater treatment. However in our country, more number of small scale industries are consuming more electricity for their daily production. But electricity production is done mostly by using fuels such as coal which is a non renewable source of energy. Generation and usage of solar energy leads to conserve the huge quantity of electricity which are
consumed by sewage treatment plant and also it is helpful for economic development. However by using natural coagulants it is more ecofriendly and sustainable when compared to the chemical coagulants which is biodegradable.
