EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION ON SELF COMPACTING CONCRETE USING LIGHT WEIGHT AGGREGATES

Abstract

Self compacting concrete is highly engineered concrete with much higher fluidity without segregation and is capable of filling every corner of form work under its self weight only.SCC mixes generally have a much higher content of fine fillers, including cement, and produce excessively high compressive strength concrete. In this project, two type of light weight aggregate such as Light weight expanded clay aggregate (LECA) and fly ash aggregate (FAA) are used in self compacting concrete. This type of aggregate is light weight in nature. Being porous, the water retained in LECA could be used for self curing and it provides continuous supply of water to the concrete. Both LECA and fly ash aggregate which enhance strength and durability of concrete. In this present experimental investigation light weight expanded clay aggregate and fly ash aggregate are replaced by fine aggregate. The replacement level is 0% to 20% at 5% interval by volume of fine aggregate.
