IMPROVING PERFORMANCE OF COOLING TOWER & REDUCTION OF BIO-MASS FORMATION

Abstract

This project aims Improving Performance of cooling Tower at company M/S Mettur Thermal Power Station, Mettur to
get the positive impact on like cooling tower performance and Productivity, Quality, Cost, etc. Thisproject starts with Cooling tower
is a continuous recycling unit which has to reduce the temperature of the hot water from the condenser. The efficiency of the
condenser is highly reliable on the operation of the cooling tower. We are involved in improving the efficiency of a Dual Cross
Induced Flow cooling tower. Hence in-order to optimise the cooling tower operation, we choose to alter the design of the fills which
has the higher responsibility in the reduction of heat. The modified fill design will be promising to be highly efficient than the existing
one. As the cooling tower also experiences considerable amount of continuous hot water flow there occurs the bio-fouling, corrosion,
sludge formation which is a natural process. We also suggested some preventive measures to reduce the formation of the bio-fouling
layer by both chemical and mechanical methods.
