This Project paper deals with the modelling & implementation of a common but capable solar DC
water pumping system with battery backup by using MATLAB SIMULINK software. The overall system
depends upon on sunlight during daytime. It consists of subsystems like solar or photovoltaic (PV) panel,
MPPT, Cuk converter, battery and DC motor pump. This PV panel subsystem was designed by MATLAB
range is a 60W module with various irradiation level and ambient temperature. During daytime to mismatch
of source and load, PV panel efficiency gets decreased. So to draw the maximum power to the load from PV
panel MPPT is implemented in the Cuk converter using PWM Generator and MPPT incremental
conductance (INC). The result validates that MPPT can significantly increase the system efficiency. The
performance of an overall solar pump system can be broadly categorized by a Simulink model. The
MATLAB simulations ratify the DC-DC converter design. This allows a lower cost system. The battery was
used as a backup during night time.
