OPTIMIZATION OF POWER FLOW IN THE AC COACHES OF THE INDIAN RAILWAYS FROM BATTERY SYSTEMS TO AC COMPRESSORS

Abstract

The power generation for the train interior is done with the alternator which is placed on the axle
of the train. The rotational energy is output of the train while it is the input for the alternator and the output
of the alternator is electric current. This is then fed to the battery system consisting of a charger and a main
battery through a rectifier cum regulator. The alternator output will also be given to the supply which makes
the concept of automatic feedback electric system. The output DC from the battery charger is given as input
to the inverter and the output AC of the inverter will be of harmonics and of low power factor quality. For an
improved power factor and harmonic elimination the AC then undergone through some hybrid algorithms.
As a result of power factor improvement the amount of active power is increased and can be given as the
input to the AC compressors for its enhanced operation with higher efficiency
