POWER EFFICIENT TERNARY CONTENT ADDRESSABLE MEMORY DESIGN BASED ON SRAM ARCHITECTURE

Abstract

Ternary Content-Addressable Memory (TCAM) is a type of memory that can be accessed using
its contents rather than an explicit address. TCAM is a specialized CAM designed for rapid table lookup and
high speed lookup operations. TCAM is widely used as a core function for various applications in network
infrastructure. The main objective of the project work is to design a power efficient TCAM based on SRAM
(Static Random Access Memory). TCAM has a simpler structure, and very importantly, it has a
deterministic search performance of one word comparison per clock cycle.TCAM table is based on Hybrid
Partitioning (HP) in which the search operations are made effective. Data mapping operation is carried out in
the HP. The search operation in layer 2 of Z-TCAM is explained in this project work. The simulation is done
in the Xilinx ISE and ModelSim ALTERA software by using Verilog hardware description language.
