REAL TIME MONITORING AND PROTECTION OF COAL CONVEYOR SYSTEM USING MICROCONTROLLER

Abstract

Coal conveyor is important in any thermal power plant. Any fault in conveyor belt may cause
reduction in efficiency and accidents. The fault in the conveyor belts is caused mainly due to two reasons.
One is heating and other is due to tearing of the belts. Commonly thermal power plants use coal as the main
source which is travelling via conveyor belt there is a chance to get a fire in that particular part of the plant.
A real time temperature monitoring system is developed to protect the conveyor. Temperature sensor is used.
Temperature exceeding the limit is sensed and the signal is given to the microcontroller and the conveyor is
stopped and initiates a buzzer and a cooling fan. IR sensor is used to sense motion of conveyor belt. If any
tear up occurs, the IR sensor sends signal to microcontroller and the conveyor is stopped and buzzer is
initiated and a respective person will monitor the process. The main use of the project is to reduce the
accidents that occur due to conveyor belt firing and tear ups.
