STUDY ON BEHAVIOR OF COLD FORMED BUILT-UP COMPRESSION MEMBER
Abstract
The aim of this project is to give a complete study on behavior of Cold – formed built-up Box shape section with flange and web stiffeners under axial compression. The report includes the topics like introduction, literature reviews, objectives of work, numerical and theoretical investigations, experimental investigation, scope of thesis, references. The introduction gives a very wide knowledge about the cold formed steel necessity and its requirement in various applications in different fields. Built – up Box shaped steel section is made by connecting two lipped angle sections by using self tapping screws. Six specimens were prepared by varying the size of the specimen. The thickness is 1.6 mm and varying length of thesection. . Results from numerical, theoretical and experimental analysis were summarized. The experimentalresults have to be compared with the numerical analysis and theoretical analysis. The numerical analysis has to be performed using the FEM software – ANSYS which gives the exact prediction of results and easy to perform the analysis. The theoretical analysis of obtaining load carrying capacity has to be carried out by Direct strength method (DSM) as per North American Specification for design of cold formed steel columns
