A STUDY ON EMPLOYEE AWARENESS OF ESI AND PROVIDENT FUND BENEFITS

Abstract

Employee welfare schemes play a crucial role in improving the financial security and social well-being of workers in India. Among these, the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESI) and the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPF) are two significant government initiatives designed to provide medical benefits, social security, and post-retirement financial support to employees. This study focuses on analyzing the level of awareness among employees regarding ESI and Provident Fund schemes. The primary objective of the study is to evaluate employees’ understanding of eligibility criteria, benefits, contribution structure, and claim procedures related to these schemes. The research adopts a descriptive methodology using primary data collected through structured questionnaires distributed among employees across different sectors. Secondary data has also been referred from official websites, journals, and government reports. The findings of the study indicate that while a majority of employees are aware of the basic concepts of ESI and Provident Fund, there exists a significant gap in detailed knowledge, especially regarding claim procedures, benefits utilization, and employer contributions. The study also reveals that awareness levels vary based on factors such as education, job role, and work experience. The study concludes that there is a need for improved communication and awareness programs by employers and concerned authorities to ensure employees fully benefit from these social security schemes. Enhancing awareness can lead to better utilization, financial stability, and overall employee satisfaction.
