A NEW APPROACH IN GRADING OF HARVESTED MANGOES USING IMAGE PROCESSING TECHNIQUES

Abstract

To increase the profitability in agricultural and food industry the proper grading of fruits is very important. A scheme for grading of mango (Mangifera Indica L.) based on maturity level in terms of actual-days-to-rot and quality attributes like size, shape and surface defect has been proposed in this paper. This scheme works on Image processing techniques to grade mangoes in four different categories, which is determined on the basis of market distance and market value. This system make use of mango image which is captured by a camera and thereafter several image processing techniques are applied to collect features. Support Vector Regression (SVM) has been employed and for estimation of quality from the quality attributes which is used for maturity prediction in terms of actual-days-to-rot, Multi Attribute Decision Making (MADM) system have been introduced. Fuzzy incremental learning algorithm has been used to grade mangoes based on maturity and quality in final stage. Nearly 87% is obtained and the performance accuracy achieved using this proposed system for grading of mango fruit. Moreover, the repeatability of the proposed system leads to 100%.
