IMPULSE NOISE SUPPRESSION USING EFFICIENT WEIGHTED AVERAGE FILTER

Abstract

In this paper, we proposed algorithm for real time high density impulse noise suppression from images. The algorithm used to suppress the real time impulse noise in two steps. In the first step, impulse Efficient Weighted Average Filter (EWAF) first constructs an initial image using the nearest neighbor interpolation and then improves it by employing a weighted average filter, which applies different procedures for weight calculation of the uncorrupted and corrupted pixels. It process the whole image rather than processing pixel by pixel. The main advantage of the proposed algorithm is that it reduces the time complexity and the weight calculations of corrupted and uncorrupted pixels are also made simple.The proposed algorithm implemented in MATLAB-2013a.
