EXPERIMENTAL AND THEORETICAL APPROACH ON CRACK WIDTH PROPAGATION OF STEEL FIBRE RC BEAMS

Abstract

The ?exural behaviour of plain and ?bre-reinforced concrete (FRC) beams under two point loading condition was analyzed. Six beams reinforced with top and bottom longitudinal deformed steel bars and transverse steel stirrups were tested. The beams were cast using OPC 53 grade. Grooved type steel ?bres were incorporated with aspect ratio 50  and adding  different percentages of 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75%, 1% and 1.25% by volume of concrete. Beams of cross section 100 mm ×150 mm and length 1100 mm were tested in ?exure under two-point bending system (two loading point plus two simple supports). Addition of ?bres increased the failure load of the beams and ensured ductile behaviour. The predicted crack width was compared with the measured crack width, and a good correlation was obtained.
