A STUDY ON FACTORS AFFECTING MIGRATED LABORS PRODUCTIVITY IN COMMERCIALBUILDINGPROJECTS
Abstract
The construction sector provides largest number of employment opportunities after agricultural sector. Labour resources are important in ensuring the successful complet ion of a project. The nature of construction works in Tamilnadu are still labor intensive. Many Commercial buildings have employed more than 75% of workers to Tamilnadu from different states. Nearly 5 lakhs of construction workers are needed every year and majority of them are migrated workers. The most challenging issue in Construction industry in the last decade is how to improve the production efficiency. The main aim of the project is to assess the efficiency of the migrated labours in construction industry. A questionnaire survey was conducted to record the importance of different factor that affect the labor productivity in context of Tamilnadu construction industry.
The questionnaire comprised (20) factors classified were analyzed and ranked according to their relative importance index (RII). The analysis reveals five critical factors are affect migrated labours efficiency they are: Lack of labour experience, Low amount of pay, Poor relations between labor and supervisors, Rework,
Overtime. At the end of this study, some recommendations were made in order to effetely manage and minimize the major factors affecting the labour productivity in construction industry at Tamilnadu.
