MINIMIZING INDUSTRIAL POWER CONSUMPTION PENALTY BY USING THYRISTOR SWITCHING CAPACITOR

Abstract

This project can bring a revolution in Industrial power consumption and introducing this system can help in increasing the power quality and controlling the react ive power under penalization power factor. The electrical loads include induction motor driven equipments, which consu me reactive power increase the amount of apparent power in the industries, which is important because a low power factor can waste energy and results in inefficient use of electrical power and often result in higher energy bills.  Th is paper presents an analysis of implementation of Flexible AC Trans mission System device specifically Thyristor Switching Capacitor (TSC) for maintaining Power Factor. The function of PIC microcontroller is to calculate the power factor, switching the appropriated value of capacitor, display the power factor, RTC for time instant of the data and WIFI module to transmit the data. The proposed system will also help the data collection and processing the collected data for further use led to the development of Internet of Things (I oT) based data acquisition system. The system will be designed to collect data from controller for many usages like Energy Auditing. This system reduces the power factor lagging and improves efficiency in the power system and economical to the industries.
