STRENGTHENING OF FLEXURAL MEMBERS USING POLYMERINFILTRATED STEEL FIBER LAMINATES

Abstract

Repairing and strengthening of ageing flexural member is increasing nowadays. The Strengthening is need for increasing the durability and serviceability of the member. An experimental investigation is made to strengthen the flexure member. The stre ngthening can be done by using polymer laminates which possess high toughness and energy absorption. The laminates are prepared by infiltrating adhesive based polymer into steel fiber. Here Crimpled steel fiber is used. The mat of size 500mm x 100mm x 10mm is prepared. Laminates of four different fiber ratio is prepared.  5, 10, 15 and 20% of volume of fiber were used for preparation of laminates. Then the mat is attached to the bottom face of the specimen. Totally nine prisms were casted of size 500mm x 100mm x 100mm. Out of  nine one is conventional specimen.  After lamination specimens were tested using flexure testing machine. The results of conventional specimen and strengthened specimens were compared.
