STUDY ON FLEXURAL BEHAVIOUR OF RC BEAMSWITH TEXTILE FABRICS

Abstract

The role of fibre in the construction industry as a reinforcing material is gaining popularity due to its high tensile strength and light weight. Due to the non-corrosive property, the fibre replaces the steel as an internal reinforcement and strengthening material for the reinforced concrete structures. The scope of the present study is to investigate the influence of the type of textile fabric and the  wrapping scheme of textile fabric towards the flexural strengthening of the reinforced concrete beams. The study will examine the effectiveness of the strengthening method on the flexural behaviour of reinforced concrete beams with textile fabrics. In order to prevent the premature debonding failure that commonly occurs in the externally strengthened beams an experimental study will be conducted on the beams strengthened externally with textile fabric mesh made of three different textile fabrics made of natural fibres such as Flax, Kenaf and Jute. The fabrics were wrapped on the beams with two different schemes namely, bottom wrapping and U wrapping using epoxy adhesive. Beams wrapped with textile fabric made of Flax fibres shows better performance compared with all other specimens.
