Synthesis of Substituted 4-[7-Methoxy-2-Benzo[b]Furanyl)] Quinoline And Its Antibacterial Activities

Abstract

4- bromo methyl quinoline have been reacted with vanillins (4 & 6) to obtain the corresponding ethers (5) and (8). Ethers (5) have been reacted with ethyl cyano acetate to obtain the unsaturated esters. Ethers (8) have been converted to corresponding 4-(2-benzo[b]furanyl) quinoline (9) by an intermolecular aldol condensation. The structures of the newly synthesized compounds were confirmed by IR,

H NMR, Mass spectra and elemental analysis. These compounds were screened for their activity against, some of the slected bacterias.
