ESTIMATE THE PERFORMANCE OF VARIOUS TYPE PROPELLERS BY USING PROPELLER TEST RIG

Abstract

This project focuses on the designing the experimental setup of propeller test rig for calculating the thrust of a propeller. Experimental set up is based on the principle of spring forces, where the rotation othe propeller created the thrust in the forward direction which is counter balanced by the restoring force produced by the spring at the end of motor. Since the primary objective of any propeller is to produce the thrust when its blade cuts through the air, hence an experimental and mathematical study has been undertaken on a  propeller test rig structure where the propeller is run between 50 RPM to 80 RPM to calibrate the spring displacement, propeller RPM and thrust. They are then tested for various speeds and blade angles using the propeller test rig. In this project done by two methods (i) Windmill method (ii) powercontrollable method.
