ANALYTICAL INVESTIGATION ON RC SHEAR WALL UNDER CYCLIC LOADING
Abstract
Reinforced Concrete (RC) shear wall are mainly used as seismic force resisting members in RC
framed structures. Due to the frequent occurrence of earth quake, it is highly essential to study about the
behaviour of RC shear wall. This study analytically investigates the seismic performance of RC shears walls
under cyclic loading with constant axial force using Abaqus software. Totally three numbers of RC shear
walls were investigated, among that one element was conventional and another two elements web
reinforcement configurations were modified as inclined pattern with different inclination. These inclinations
were adopted in order to study the performance of shear wall due to the effect of changes in its
reinforcement configuration. The structural parameters like load carrying capacity, energy absorption, and
stiffness characteristics were compared and analyzed. The test results demonstrate that the inclines
reinforcement bars adopted with effective inclination efficiently influences the enhancement of energy
dissipation properties and load carrying capacity of the elements and also reduces the rate of stiffness
degradation and possible damages by the cyclic forces. Thus the effective changes in web reinforcement
patterns by inclined patterns have performed better than the conventional web reinforced RC shear wall
elements.
