DETECTION OF LIVER CANCER USING IMAGE PROCESSING

Abstract

Image processing is a method to perform certain operations on an image, to urge an enhanced image or to extract some useful data from it. It is a kind of signal processing within which input is an image and output could also be an image or characteristics/features related to that image. This method is additionally used in medical applications for various detection and treatment. Liver cancer is one of the most lethal diseases in the world. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has become a vital tool for doctors to diagnose liver cancer for many years. The survival rate of liver cancer patients is considerably improved by an early diagnosis. In this work, an automatic detection method is presented to detect the liver cancer at early stage. A computer aided kernel-based Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm was applied to the patient’s Magnetic Resonance (MR) images for diagnosing liver cancer in early stage. The histogram-based feature extraction method is applied to extract feature information from each raw MR image acquired. Proposed method can help doctors and radio logistic by improving the diagnose rate of liver cancer at early stage. SVM classifier used in the proposed system which increases the accuracy of the system.
