EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF FLEXURAL BEHAVIOR OF STAINLESS STEEL AND MILD STEEL CONCRETE BEAMS IN ADVERSE ENVIRONMENT
Abstract
In this study the flexural behavior of stainless steel concrete beam and mild steel concrete beam is been investigated and corrosion test have been conducted on the reinforcement bars so that It helps for the marine structures to avoid corrosion on salt water areas. Corrosion is the main factor which affects the strength and durability of a building to avoid such thing non-corrosive reinforcement bars like stainless steel bars, mild steel bars….etc can be used instead of ordinary tmt bars. The M40 grade is used for the concrete beams. All concrete specimens were made incorporating 10% metakaolin. The basic materials test like Fineness modulus, Specific gravity and Bulk modulus have been conducted. Tensile test is done on mild steel and stainless steel. Acceleration corrosion test is done by casting a cylinder and passing current by cathode anode reaction the corrosion is made faster within few days. Concrete beams with mild steel, stainless steel and tmt bar as reinforcement have been casted. Testing will be performed after 28 days of curing. Based on the results of flexure interpretation of load deflection, crack width and crack width propagation. By performing this project we could try to control corrosion of buildings in salt water regions.
