MANUFACTURING OF ECO-FRINDLY BRICKS (E-BRICKS)

Abstract

One of the important material used in the construction of building and other structures are bricks. Those bricks are generally made by clay and silt content. Nearly 100 of year’s clay is the major source used in the manufacturing of bricks. So the continuous usage of the clay mineral leads to the lack of the soil. Definitely it makes a great impact in the civil engineering field. For this reason an alternate bricks should be developed. In this project lime powder, class C fly ash, silica fume, Ceramic Waste Powder (CWP) and water are used without any other components in masonry brick production. Limestone powder, class C fly ash and silica fume were mixed, humidified, compacted and cured for periods of 7, 14 and 28 days. The Compressive strength, Efflorescence test, Water absorption Test and Other tests of bricks were measured. The Compressive strength of the samples were to be increases significantly when the Fly ash content in mixtures was increased. At the 40% Fly ash content, the Compressive strengths of masonry blocks at the 7, 14 and 28 days of curing time, were 4.56, 6.30 and 7.21 Mpa. The estimated production cost of a new masonry bricks are cheaper than that of traditional fired brick. The preliminary results were encouraging enough that these waste materials were used to produce a composite masonry brick without affecting the Environment.
