PERFORMANCE OF STRAW BALE SANDWICHED BRICK
Abstract
Straw bale construction technique has been introduced decades ago, but till now the problems in straw bale wall is not fully rectified. In the current study some modifications are done to improve the performance of straw bale. Here the performance of straw sandwiched brick is found by, determining the compressive strength and thermal properties of straw sandwiched fly-ash brick. The brick consist of material like fly-ash, m-sand/quarry dust, lime, gypsum, rice straw and water. Here rice straw is used as the main additive material, as it has good thermal insulating property. The five different proportion of straw which is replaced with m-sand is 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%. All other materials like fly-ash, lime, gypsum and water are used in the same proportion as used in making of fly-ash bricks. Here the approach of formulating Eco-straw bale brick is an environmental and sustainable approach as it helps to meet the three pillars of sustainable development: environment, economy and society.
