STRUCTURAL BEHAVIOUR OF CORRODED RC COLUMN RETROFITTED WITH TEXTILE REINFORCED MORTAR UNDER CYCLIC LOADING
Abstract
Reinforced concrete (RC) is one of the most widely used materials in construction of structures, many of which are reportedly failing because of corrosion. Reinforcing steel bars in concrete structures are sensitive to corrosion that severely affects its serviceability and safety. Based on the literatures, it could be concluded that the structures may fail due to corrosion and it affects the bonding strength between the concrete and steel. As a part of the experimental investigation, RC specimens were casted and they were subject to corrosion by impressed voltage test. After the accelerated corrosion process, the corroded columns were tested under simulated seismic loading followed by which the tested columns were strengthened by using Textile Reinforced Mortar (TRM). TRM is a Glass fibre textile fabric with polymer mortar, used for repairing and strengthening the existing structural members. They also improve the strength, load carrying capacity and ductility of columns. The conventional and strengthened specimen has been tested under simulated seismic loading. The structural behaviour and influence of textile reinforcement in RC corroded columns has been studied and has been compared the corroded RC columns without textile reinforcement.
