STUDY ON COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF LIME MORTAR WITH ADMIXTURE AND TILES POWDER

Abstract

In early days, lime was used as a binding material for construction of building. But the strength of lime is very less compared to cement, so in upcoming days lime was replaced completely by cement. Since then cement has been used as major construction material. In this study lime is used in place of cement as in early days but along with admixtures in order to increase the strength. This reduces the environmental problems caused by cement in mortar. The admixture and organic additives used is jaggery, Tiles Powder and silica fume. The mix proportion adopted is 1:3(lime: M-sand) and the water cement ratio is 0.5. The compressive strength of mortar is found out by experimental study and lime is compared with conventional cement mortar. Finally results show that the admixture improved the strength of lime mortar.
