A STUDY ON AWARENESS OF PATIENT SAFETY CULTURE AMONG HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS IN A MULTI SPECIALITY HOSPITAL
Abstract
Patient safety is considered to be important to healthcare quality and is one of the major things
monitored by all healthcare organizations around the world. Healthcare professionals play a vital role in
maintaining and promoting patient safety due to the nature of their work.
The purpose of this study was to identify patient safety culture among healthcare professionals in a
multispecialty hospital and to identify the factors that need to be emphasized in order to develop and maintain
the culture of safety among healthcare professionals in multi specialty hospital.
This study showed that healthcare professionals s value teamwork within units, management support,
Frequency of Events Reported, Staffing, Handoffs & Transitions and were found to be a major impact on
events reporting and patient safety grade.
Hospital management support, supervisor/manager expectations, teamwork, hospital handoffs and
transitions were found to be major patient safety culture predictors. Investing in practices and systems that
focus on improving these aspects is likely to enhance the culture of patient safety in hospitals and others like
them.
