Government e-Marketplace (gem) was launched by the Government of India and it is an online platform started in 2016. Gem's goal is to create a paperless, cashless and contactless system for various government agencies and organizations to procure goods and services. E-Marketplace main aim is to bring transparency, efficiency and cost-effectiveness to the procurement process while promoting the use of products made in India. In this article we describe the features, business opportunities, benefits, challenges and recent updation in gem. Gem also helps promote small businesses, especially women, by facilitating access to government procurement opportunities. Overall, the gem platform has transformed the landscape of government procurement in India, emerging as a key tool to promote transparency and efficiency in government procurement.
