STRENGTH AND DURABILITY PERFORMANCE OF LIGHT EXPANDED CLAY AGGREGATE IN CONCRETE
Abstract
The construction sector would be severely hindered without the use of lightweight concrete.
Dead weight reduction is the major goal when using structural lightweight concrete. When compared to
conventional concrete, such as that constructed using gravel or crushed stone aggregates, the weight of light
weight concrete is significantly lower.
Cement, coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, and light weight aggregates are among the primary materials used
to produce concrete in this study. Concrete can be made lighter by substituting lightweight aggregates like
Light Expanded Clay Aggregate (LECA) for normal stone aggregates. Concretegrade M20 is produced by
replacing 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, coarse aggregate with LECA. The properties of materials,
workability tests, hardened properties of LECA concrete, and durability properties including water
absorption and Rapid chloride penetration tests are examined. It is concluded that LECA-mixed concrete
possessed superior strength and durability properties, as well as a lower density.
